AI at Work

Claude Team, Claude Code and software built with Claude

“Using Claude” can mean three quite different things. The difference matters for who uses it, where data goes and what your IT provider is asked to do.

The three, in plain terms

Claude Team
Anthropic's business plan for Claude. Staff use Claude in a browser or the desktop app, share projects, and connect it to systems such as Microsoft 365. The workspace and its data belong to the business.
Claude Code
Anthropic's coding and automation tool. It runs on a computer, can read and write files, write software and carry out multi-step jobs that a person has set up and approved.
Software built with Claude
An ordinary program that Claude wrote and tested. Once it is built it runs on its own, so no AI is involved when staff use it.

Some systems built with Claude run a different AI model once they are in use. A private knowledge base on a firm's own hardware, for example, can run an openly available model that sends nothing to any cloud service. Our case studies say which applies in each case. For the Microsoft 365 side, see connecting Claude to Microsoft 365.
